KUCHING: The coming school holidays will see 200 students taking part in a week-long camp to master science and mathematics.

To be held at Wisma Wanita here from June 6-12, Fiveoeight Consultant will introduce a method known as ‘Kaedah Mokhdar’ to help students who are weak in the two subjects.

This method is said to help students easily absorb mathematical formulae and scientific terms.

“Students from poor families who are proficient in Bahasa Malaysia but are weak in mathematics and science are encouraged to enrol in the programme,” said camp joint organising chairman Wan Zain Syed Mohdzar.

To date, 200 participants from 30 schools, children’s homes and orphanages in Kuching and Sri Aman have been identified to participate.

Malaysian Parents Consultative Association (Mapim) Sarawak branch, headed by Wan Zain, and the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation are the camp’s joint organisers.

Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office Datin Fatimah Abdullah is scheduled to officiate at the opening on June 6, while the closing ceremony would be held at Dewan Astana Negeri Sarawak.

Meanwhile, the organising committee recently paid a courtesy call on the Head of State’s wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Norkiah at the Astana to brief her on the camp. She is the committee’s patron and advisor.
